With Easter, the school holidays and the AGM behind us, we can look forward to the busy and sociable month of May.
We are now into the quarter finals of both the Chairman’s Cup and Chairman’s Bowl competitions, dates below, with the semi-finals to be arranged later in the month. And we have the Barford Salver Open Singles competition on the 20th and 21st, with matches that will be well worth watching.
Unfortunately we have had to postpone the Bretten Bowl Open Doubles competition, as insufficient players were available on the proposed dates. We have held it previously both mid-week and at weekends and it is impossible to please everyone, whatever we do. We hope to rearrange the competition for mid-September or October.
We have two other individual events on Sat 13th, a singles handicap medal day, and Sun 14th, for players with handicaps of 66 and over. So do sign up if you would like to play.
And Exeter University takes on the LRTA in a match on the 27th.
On the social front, we have the Barn Dance on Thursday the 26th. So if you haven’t already signed up to come along, then do so now and come along for some good calling and line dancing.
And finally, to give advance notice, we have the club’s main handicap competition of the year, The Michael Jones Trophy, between Wed 7 and Sat 10 June together with a Moroccan themed supper on Friday evening, the 9th. The two finalists in this event are then eligible to enter the National Clubs’ Chetwood Trophy.
Best wishes, Denis
