Rather belatedly, I am delighted to bring you this review of recent happenings and an idea of what is to come in July and August.
Of most significance is to inform you that Bristol and Bath Tennis Club Limited, which owns the building, and BRTC, our tennis club, have agreed to go ahead with a project to install solar panels on three of the roofs of the court building. Design and planning work has already started and installation should commence towards the end of July and run into August. With “a fair wind behind us”, and a big sun above us, we ought to start generating electricity in late August.
I would like to thank Chris Willows, our club Treasurer, for all his hard work in progressing this, including the development of the commercial case and liaising with the potential contractors. As you will realise, the objective is to better control our future costs, electricity being our largest cost after professional salaries. We expect to be able to save at least £5k per annum, a not insubstantial amount in the context of the club’s finances.
From Kevin’s e-mail on 27 June, you will have seen that we have developed a Summer Programme to excite your interest through July and August. It includes; a season ticket for July and August; a discounted package of lessons; marking and doubles seminars to improve your skill in each; a summer box league; and the Sunshine Cup (a handicap competition for 16 with a new racket as first prize).
So enjoy your summer; put Jan’s Pimms Party in your diary now, and include tennis along the way.
With best wishes, Denis
