Chairmans Update - “What’s On” for April, 2017

Dear Members,

With Spring very definitely upon us, we should feel revived and want to play more tennis.

So we have a varied month in April, starting with the Val Probyn-Long ladies singles, won on Sunday afternoon by Eleanor Beale in an enjoyable final against Margot Cooper.

We then have the two U18 championships on Sunday the 9th, although currently we do not have many members in that age category.

We only have one inter-club match this month, compared to the eight in March.

Most importantly, we begin the Chairman’s Cup competition this month, which will run through April and May. And while the Cup competition is being run in the same format as last year, with the winners of the boxes progressing forward to knock-out stages, we are also introducing a new element, The Chairman’s Bowl, for those members who are the runners-up in each box. There are 16 boxes spread over five days in April, so do enter your name in whichever box is most convenient.

And finally, we have the AGM at 6.30pm on Wednesday the 26th, followed by wine and canapes. Do come along to hear the Chairman’s report on the past year at your club, and to hear of the latest developments. We are seeking new members for the committee and my successor (my term expires at the 2018 AGM). So if you would like to help, please put forward your name.

Best wishes, Denis
